Episode 225: Dawsyn, reclaimed
Anyone who has been abused or harmed deserves justice. The kind of justice validated by a courtroom trial and a guilty verdict. But our justice system is an imperfect one. Not everyone’s monster gets punished. Today’s story will show you that a lack of courtroom justice doesn’t mean failure. We’re in control of how we prevail over trauma. And every monster is responsible for the crimes they commit- even if they escape the law.

Episode 224: Anna Marie Emry
On August 13th, 1994, a 9-year-old little girl is snatched from her bed in the middle of the night. Hundreds of volunteers sweep the cornfields of Brighton, Iowa, desperate to locate the little girl. Local law enforcement exhaust their every resource to find her: canine units, helicopters, off-road vehicles, over 500 missing child posters, internet forums, and more. But no matter how hard they look, investigators only discover one clue: a screen door that was removed from its tracks and placed outside the house where the little girl was sleeping. After five days of searching with nothing to show for it, the little girl’s family, the police, and local residents are losing hope. Until, suddenly, the very same man who installed the dismantled screen door confesses. In episode 224, Jac and Alexis explain how Lary Lane Morgan shattered his friends’ trust and destroyed the safety of an entire community when he kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered Anna Marie Emry.

On May 19, 2022, a 40 year old woman is shot outside her house in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Everyone in the community is in disbelief. Despite almost losing her life during a brutal assault by an abuser, struggling with addiction, and living with domestic violence, the victim’s life has turned around in the months before her death. She’s recently married, and dedicates her time to helping victims of domestic trafficking reclaim their bodies and lives. When friends and family learn the killer’s identity, it’s the last person they'd ever have suspected. In episode 223, Jac and Alexis detail the devastating case of Nicki Peterson, and how the choices made by those we think we can love and trust can be more dangerous than the people we truly have reason to fear.

Episode 222: The River Parishes Serial Killer
On October 17, 1996, a 41 year old repair shop owner and father of three is bludgeoned to death at his home in St Amant, Louisiana, by an intruder. The killer leaves a bloody baseball bat in the victims’ bathtub, but there appears to be little forensic evidence indicating who’s responsible. For detectives, without any leads or solid direct evidence, it seems a confession will be the only way to solve the case. It won’t be until over a year later, in November 1997, that law enforcement would apprehend the killer. Tragically, by this stage he’d killed another five people. In episode 222, Jac and Alexis detail the chilling case of Daniel Blank, a violent offender who became known as the River Parishes Serial Killer, and had older residents of this small region of Louisiana living in fear.

Like a real-life fairytale, Allison is going to live with her rich and loving father, 36-year-old Dwaine Tinsley, in Los Angeles. It's perfect, until one day Dwaine sneaks into Allison’s bedroom and molests her. From then on, for five years, Dwaine would sexually abuse Allison multiple times a week. All the while, Dwaine was the creator of Hustler magazine’s Chester the Molester comic strip, which depicts a perverted old man who tricks little girls into having sex with him. In 1989, Allison informs the police of her father’s abuse, and Dwaine is sentenced to six years in prison. But due to a technicality, his conviction is overturned after two years. In episode 221, Jac and Alexis analyze the complex culture of Hustler magazine and how Dwaine Tinsley hid in plain sight for far too long. Buy Allison’s book here: https://www.allisonunchained.com/

However, despite the brutal nature of the crime, law enforcement is unable to pin down a suspect, and the city is on edge.
