Black Trans History and Futures

For Black History Month, Imara brings us an episode focused on honoring Black, trans histories and understanding how they can help us envision and build toward bright Black, trans futures. She’s joined by the incredible artist, filmmaker, and scholar Tourmaline, whose passion for understanding trans histories is the singular reason the world knows so much about Marsha P. Johnson. Tourmaline discusses how understanding and reimagining the lives of trans people from the past fuels her creativity, the importance of freedom dreaming, and how engaging with Black trans histories can help us find ease in the present while allowing us to build to the futures we envision.

For Trans Joy, Imara welcomes Jamie Freya Knott, owner of the organic and vegan soap company Shop Jamie Freya, to talk about the freedom and control she’s found through becoming an entrepreneur.
